Job Description and Responsibilities

We are seeking a Welding Engineer to join our growing team, located in Pueblo, Colorado.  The Welding Engineer assists in the development of new and/or improved rail welding techniques and processes for Evraz-Pueblo which include thermite, flash-butt as well as weld HAZ treatment processes. This position also assists in the development of new and/or improved products and processes for Evraz Pueblo.

Responsibilities:

  • Performance of product and process trials for current rail products as well as future generations
  • Collaboration with Evraz rail customers, weld suppliers, and engineering specialists in the optimization of rail welding and treatment processes
  • Provide metallurgical expertise and contribute to ongoing and future long product development efforts
  • Lead and/or conduct laboratory testing for Product Technology
  • Develop mechanical/metallographic test protocols for development material and/or commercial grades of rail, rod and seamless tubing as needed
  • Perform tests for more technically demanding evaluations
  • Operate scanning electron microscope (SEM) and interpret results



Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • B.S. Metallurgical or Materials Engineering; M.S. or PhD preferred
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience working in a product/process development position preferably evaluating ferrous alloys
  • Demonstrated experience in ferrous welding with rail specific experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of metallurgy, metal forming, and heat treatment
  • Basic knowledge and statistical analysis with good problem solving techniques
  • Experience writing technical reports summarizing key findings and identifying next steps
  • Knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing, experience with failure analysis, and experience in the performance of advanced mechanical testing a plus
  • Capable of using Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, Project, Outlook and PowerPoint
