Job Description and Responsibilities

The Welding Engineer is responsible for providing metallurgical expertise and will be expected to collaborate with operations to continually improve welding processes, consumables and supplier management. This position will supervise mechanical and non-destructing testing (NDT) of welds, assemble process, and welder qualification packages. This position reports directly to the Manager of Quality Assurance.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop Welding Procedures and perform all activities related to weld process qualification and testing
  • Review customer specifications and provide guidance with respect to welding procedures
  • Select appropriate consumable package based on product and technical requirements
  • Provide direction to operations group and laboratory personnel on sampling and testing of welds
  • Provide direction and/or performs sample preparation, testing, evaluation, and dissemination of data through the writing of concise reports.
  • Provide metallurgical expertise to assist in new product development and conduct trials in collaboration with the R&D department and external suppliers
  • Conduct periodic audits and ensure compliance with procedures and specifications
  • Participate in supplier development and qualification
  • Prepare detailed documentation of all technical efforts and disseminate findings through concise written reports.
  • Participate in production and quality meetings assisting in the execution of action items as they relate to improvement opportunities.



Job Requirements

  • S. Metallurgical, Materials or Welding Engineering
  • A minimum of three to five years of work experience in ferrous welding with DSAW
  • Extensive knowledge of Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) for tubular goods.
  • Knowledge of API 5L and ASME Sect IX
  • Basic knowledge and statistical analysis with proven problem solving techniques.
  • Experience writing technical reports summarizing key findings and identifying next steps.
  • Knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing a plus.
  • Capable of using Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, Project, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Preferred:

  • Advanced Degree in Metallurgical, Materials or Welding Engineering
  • Previous experience in pipe/tube mill
