Job Description and Responsibilities

 

We are currently seeking a Welder to work in the EVRAZ Calgary Navajo Metals/Recycling facility to perform all kinds of welding, brazing, and cutting of any type of metal suing gas and electric welding equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Receives instructions, prints, and work orders for jobs.
  • Interprets drawings and sketches, plans details of working procedure, tools, and material requirements.
  • Selects materials in accordance with suitability for job.
  • Lays out work, makes sketches, and determines stock sizes as required.
  • Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded as required.
  • Sets-up assembles and tack weld parts, constructing special fixtures as needed.
  • Performs gas and electric welding in all positions (down-hand vertical, overhead, etc.
  • Makes any type and size of weld, such as “V” lap, butt, etc., pre-heating parts when required.
  • Builds up worn or defective parts.
  • Cleans, grinds, and flame anneals parts and welded joints as required.
  • Uses burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut materials to size and shape.
  • Exercises all safety precautions and makes provisions for handling material and equipment to and from job site as required in connection with work.
  • Works in shop or field.
  • Performs work requiring a working knowledge of the welding properties of various types of metals, welding rods, welding heats, stress relief, allowances for fitup and machining and the effect of shrinkage, warpage, and expansion.
  • Keeps work area clean.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of any procedural abnormalities.
  • Observes and follows all safety rules and regulations.

Job Requirements

  • Must possess a Red Seal Journeyman Welder Certificate.
  • A B-pressure welding certificate would be considered an asset
  • Must be proficient at SMAW,GMAW, and Carbon air arc gouging
  • Preference will be given to applicants with previous maintenance experience
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Problem solving and ability to trouble shoot will be considered a strong asset

Starting wage for the Welder is $30.93/Hour. This is a full-time permanent year round position that offers a full comprehensive benefit and pension package. The successful candidate must be flexible to work 4 days on, 4 days off with the 4 scheduled shifts 10 Hours in length and this schedule rotates between Monday to Saturday with the candidate being required to work one Saturday every month (Sundays are off).

The successful candidate will also be asked to under a Fitness To Work & Alcohol & Drug Test, reference check, and provide proof of their Red Seal designation upon a conditional offer of employment being extended.
