Job Description and Responsibilities

 

EVRAZ NA is seeking a Technical Training Manager based in Calgary. This role will provide influential leadership and drive the implementation of technical training across the organization. This includes the design, development and facilitation of technical training programs designed to ensure the compliance and certification of our manufacturing processes. The preferred incumbent will have demonstrated knowledge of instructional design and effective adult learning and training methodologies and their direct application in a technical and/or regulated environment. 

 

  • Work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to design, develop and implement training and effectiveness evaluations that support both organizational and departmental training objectives (e.g. improved efficiency, enhanced compliance, reduction in deviations, etc.)
  • Partner with manufacturing leadership to build a curriculum that supports safety, quality and overall individual and facility performance; regularly assessing gaps in these areas and adjust training offerings as needed
  • Foster a learning environment by partnering with Continuous Improvement and drives results reflected in key Operational metrics
  • Create and maintain course content, manuals and other training materials
  • Develop subject matter expert trainers through Train-the-Trainer programs and consistent feedback
  • Act as a change agent by encouraging positive attitudes and behaviors towards training and work duties
  • Assess the learning experience; evaluate mentor/coach to ensure training effectiveness and correct any issues that arise
  • Maintain accurate training records and ensuring that workers have completed required training
  • Design/prepare/procure educational aids
  • Ensure Work Instructions, Standard Operating Procedures, and other training materials are appropriately incorporated into training and overall job performance
  • Conduct audits and evaluate the effectiveness of training to ensure operators are performing operations as stated
  • Assess instructional effectiveness and determine the impact of training on Associate skills and Plant KPI’s; report on key metrics regularly
  • Partner with stakeholders on the implementation of technology to support training and reference material access (i.e., Work Instruction) in the plant
  • Maintain files of training materials and of all training conducted; maintain the ability to produce training records as required for audits (LMS)
  • Ensure the training management software is updated with all training methods, courses and necessary training materials
  • Provide assessment, recommendations and guidance to functional work group management for the development of instructional programs and materials to meet department training requirements.
  • Provide assessment, recommendations and guidance to functional work group qualified trainers/SMEs for the enhancement of training effectiveness
  • Conduct training courses and trainer qualification events as required
  • Support work group management in the development of curricula.
  • Monitor and tracks training effectiveness for functional departments as well as organization-wide initiatives
  • Provide management over-sight and leadership to the Training Specialists



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in an engineering discipline
  • Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of directly related experience, preferably in an industrial manufacturing industry
  • Project management expertise
  • Working knowledge of learning management systems.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% or more
  • Experience developing training from concept to implementation
  • Experience collaborating and influencing leadership and teams at all levels within an organization
