Job Description and Responsibilities

 

EVRAZ NA has an immediate opening for a Senior Non Destructive Testing (NDT) Level III in Calgary. In this position you will be responsible for ensuring that the proper non destructive inspection of pipe/coupling products at all EVRAZ Canada facilities meet Canadian Standards Association (CSA), American Petroleum Institute (API), American Society for Materials Testing (ASTM) and/or other industry standards and customer specifications. This role provides functional direction to NDT personnel across Canada. Additionally, you will provide technical support services to NDT Specialists by providing personnel training and certification, equipment troubleshooting support, new equipment installation support, best operating practice development and the development of improved process control systems to monitor the real-time effectiveness of our NDT systems.

  • Develop, qualify and approve NDT procedures and associated techniques
  • Interpret codes, standards, specifications, procedures, designating the particular NDT methods and procedures to be used
  • Provide interpretation of NDT results in terms of existing codes, standards and specifications to Canadian NDT operations personnel
  • Establish NDT operating setups and acceptance criteria when none are available
  • Responsible for radiation safety for all applicable company locations including interpreting local, state and federal code requirements
  • Provide safety training for NDT personnel and develop/maintain EVRAZ Canada radiation safety program
  • Ensure that non-destructive inspection techniques of pipe/coupling products at all EVRAZ Canada facilities meet CSA, API, ASTM and/or customer specifications
  • Provide functional direction to NDT personnel in each operating facility
  • Develop standard operating best practices for NDT systems
  • Maintain a complete understanding of current CSA, API, ASTM and ASNT requirements
  • Keep up-to-date on new equipment, systems and techniques by reading related literature and attending related conferences, seminars and new equipment exhibitions
  • Lead initiatives on new NDT installations
  • Work with engineering on project scope development
  • Work with vendors on system design, process control philosophy
  • Monitor pre-shipment acceptance testing
  • Monitor installation ensuring technical scope items are in place
  • Conduct acceptance testing with employees
  • Provide expert advice with regard to NDT issues and QA-related projects involving manufacturing practices or the final decision for the acceptance or rejection of potentially nonconforming pipe
  • Develop NDT auditing plans for compliance with NDT written practices and oversees NDT audits
  • Represent EVRAZ Canada regarding NDT issues during customer audits, field inspections and when mill inspection occasions arise



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Minimum of Level III certification in Ultrasonic and Magnetic Testing from the Canadian General Standards Board, ASNT or equivalent
  • Ten years’ experience using NDT in the steel, pipe or a related industry
  • Experience with automated PE, Phased Array Ultrasonics (PAUT) and Time-of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD UT) Ultrasonic Techniques, experience with automated Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) & standard Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) techniques
  • Demonstrated capability in developing NDT Level I and II training and testing material and administering training programs for NDT personnel for certification and re-certification
  • Knowledge of pipe mill operations, equipment and machinery including some hands-on experience
  • Thorough knowledge of CSA, API, ASTM and customer specifications
  • Capable of using MS Office tools such as MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Experience giving presentations to management regarding project results
  • Experience writing technical reports summarizing key findings and identifying next steps
  • Experience working with interdepartmental teams at all levels of management to accomplish tasks
  • Able to work effectively with hourly and management ranks
