Job Description and Responsibilities

 

EVRAZ NA’s Information Technology organization is seeking an experienced Applications Developer for our Tubular Group to work for our Camrose Tubular and Edmonton Coupling Mills in Alberta.

The primary responsibility of this important role is to create and maintain software solutions to support our mills operations and quality teams. This person will be part of Tubular Product Group IT Team (TPG-IT). Reporting to TPG-IT Director in Calgary, this person will work closely with local users in Camrose and Edmonton and IT associates at other EVRAZ NA facilities to solve business issues through technology. They will drive all aspects of the software development process, including business analysis, technical design, software development, testing, documentation, and implementation.

  • Programming support of existing Quality and Manufacturing Execution Systems.
  • Take vital part in various projects related to Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Business related Applications, Information Management, Database Development / Maintenance as well as contribute to the technical competencies and production requirements of our manufacturing facilities.
  • Develop integration / interface with Level 2/HMI shop floor systems and third-party equipment to Interface/Import and manipulate data to be used by the MES system.
  • Collaborate with IT associates to support large projects for Camrose and other EVRAZ NA sites in Canada.
  • Gather business requirements from mill leadership, supervisors, and operators on the floor and translate business requirements into technical designs and software solutions.
  • Develop critical solutions using lean and agile programming methods. Develop software in line with documented processes and standards and define and execute robust software test plans.
  • Consistently maintain documentation of system design and enhancements as projects are executed.
  • Understand system change impacts and design implementation plans that avoid negative impact to mill operations.
  • Support existing systems through troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues that occur throughout the normal course of operation. Solve issues in a timely manner and achieve a high level of customer satisfaction from our system users.
  • Provide input on team development methodologies and standards.
  • Document business processes and technical solution decisions through analysis / diagramming tools.

Job Requirements

 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of four years of software development experience as a .net Developer.
  • Proven experience designing custom application solutions utilizing forms, procedures, reports, and database objects. Working experience with SQL Server 2008/2012 and Management Studio.
  • Experience in Web Application Development.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence Projects, specifically Power BI will be an asset.
  • Experience executing the entire software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, technical design, software development, testing, and implementation.
  • Ability to plan work and complete deliverables in line with planned schedule.
  • Experience leading cross-functional project teams.
  • Experience in a manufacturing industry, preferably steel or oil & gas related.
  • Basic understanding of key mill processes, including manufacturing, production scheduling, quality control, inventory management and shipping.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with associates at all levels of an organization, from a mill line operator to mill management and director level executives
  • A self starter who can set direction and prioritize tasks independently.

Desired Qualifications

  • Technical skills with Microsoft products, including Visual Basic.NET, C#.NET, NET, SQL Server, Transact-SQL, SSRS, Web Application Development and Power BI.
  • Experience integrating with shop floor PLC systems.
  • Project Management training and experience is an asset.
  • Experience planning large projects and developing project justification documentation.
  • Project Management experience or the ability to grow into a project management role quickly.
  • Experience with LEAN manufacturing concepts.
