Job Description and Responsibilities

 

We are looking for a Quality Engineer at our Edmonton Coupling Machining facility. The Quality Engineer will review audits findings on manufacturing and product inspection practices for our various coupling machining processes and come up with corrective actions.  This position will interact with the operations department on a daily basis to ensure that a high quality product is produced and will be involved in team-oriented problem solving efforts as opportunities present themselves.

 

  • Conduct and coordinate product and process analyses (often in coordination with R&D) to synthesize complex technical information into meaningful conclusions and prepare comprehensive reports related to improvement initiatives
  • Manage on-site customer quality complaints and the communication with the customer and the company sales and technical teams
  • Coordinate and manage the continual improvement process utilizing structured problem solving within the corrective and preventive action processes
  • Perform periodic process audits to ensure conformance with documented work procedures. As well participate in TPG internal and external quality audit functions
  • Monitor and trend daily/weekly key quality metrics and communicate issues to mill management as part of effort to identify improvement opportunities
  • Assist in the administration and improvement of the quality system to maintain compliance with quality standards
  • Monitor downgrade trends and communicate issues to operations and develop improvement opportunities
  • Provide dispositions for product on quality hold
  • Provide technical assistance for shop floor quality issues
  • Participate in product and process trials with Coupling Manufacturing and research personnel
  • Investigate quality escapes, internal and external non-conformances and develop improvement opportunities
  • Investigate, analyze results and compile reports on product claims
  • Provide support to third party inspection personnel
  • Develop training literature for quality inspectors or lab personnel
  • develop/review/revise procedures, work instructions, data sheets, specification sheets etc
  • Conduct Machine Capability and Process Capability studies
  • Provide vacation relief for the Quality Manager when permissible
  • Support Manufacturing, Process and Continuous Improvement Engineers



 



Job Requirements

 

  • University engineering degree in Mechanical/Materials/Metallurgical/Industrial disciplines is preferred.5 or more years of experience as an engineer/supervisor
  • Knowledge of industry standards including; API & CSA tubular product, ASME or API welding, and ASTM mechanical and NDE testing
  • Trained and certified in quality auditing
  • Understanding of ISO quality standards and quality management systems;
  • Experience in facilitating and solving quality problems (including 8D with RCA) bringing in ideas and buy-in from interdepartmental groups
  • Experience in statistical data analysis and process analysis
  • Good knowledge of steel processes and tubular products
  • Experience in developing, reporting and presenting ideas and projects to various levels of management and customers
  • Demonstrated experience working with customers, inspectors, bargaining unit members and management staff within a production environment;
  • Attention to detail
  • Good communication, time management and report writing skills;
  • Strong preference for knowledge of coupling manufacturing, threading and steel mill processes and operations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to work effectively with hourly and management ranks
  • Six sigma green or black belt, preferred
  • Technical report writing with a strong ability to summarize key findings and identify next steps
