Job Description and Responsibilities

EVRAZ is seeking a Purchasing Agent to join our team. This role is responsible for organizing, directing, and controlling the procurement of goods and services throughout the Canadian operations, with particular attention to Red Deer. The successful candidate will execute the corporate purchasing strategy and strive to meet corporate objectives related to cost savings, continuous improvement, capital projects and plant productivity initiatives.

  • Develop an efficient and accurate system for monitoring all open purchase orders
  • Purchase Order expediting
  • Secures and analyzes quotations, negotiates prices and terms with suppliers, and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities
  • Foster trust relationships with vendors to achieve better pricing and quality of services
  • Evaluate and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and to determine need for changes
  • Coordinate vendor communication, prepare regular updates on contractor head count, WCB, Premise Entry and insurance
  • Day to Day supplier management
  • Build relationships with internal customers and other Evraz plants including Accounting and the Quality Team
  • Work with Sales teams to issue Pipe Coating purchase orders
  • Work with Production Planning on the purchase of 3rd party steel, including coupling stock
  • Negotiate, or renegotiate and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors and other representatives
  • Work with the inventory management team to ensure that all deliveries satisfy the assigned purchase orders and report any back-ordered or missing products
  • Assist the PRM/Site with maintaining proper inventory levels of materials used on a regular basis
  • Monitor Days on Hand metrics and work with Site to maintain agreed upon levels
  • Work with other Evraz plants to optimize all inventory levels and assist with emergency situations
  • Work proactively to meet strategic goals for cost reductions and service improvements
  • Assist with developing and delivering Purchasing Policy training
  • Develop synergies with other Evraz Site; process, materials, purchases
  • Analyze vendor capabilities versus requirements and research new suppliers
  • Vendor evaluations; Evaluate existing suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, supplier's track record
  • Monitor shipments to ensure that goods come in on time and in the event of problems trace shipments and follow up undelivered goods



Job Requirements

  • Business Degree or Certificate or Diploma in Purchasing
  • Three years’ hands on purchasing/materials management or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications specifically Excel
  • Knowledge of parts and equipment
  • Experience working in the manufacturing industry an asset
