Job Description and Responsibilities

 

We are currently seeking five (5) Production Workers (entry level) to work in the Calgary Navajo Metals Recycling Facility and EDI facility. Positions include two (2) Pickers, two (2) Torch Cutters, and one (1) Metal Sorter. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the entry-level Production Workers will transport scrap materials throughout the yard, feed conveyors and other equipment, sort, stack, bundle and stamp materials, and perform other activities to assist process and machine operations.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for handling, moving, and disposing of metal/scrap material throughout the scrapyard.
  • Organize and sort various metal materials throughout the scrapyard.
  • Keeps yard area clean, tidy, and organized.
  • Various lifting and manual labor tasks involved.
  • Adhere to all appropriate Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Grease and clean equipment as needed and assist maintenance to keep production equipment operational and functional.
  • Observes and follows all safety rules and regulations on site.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of any procedural abnormalities including faulty operation, defective equipment and all other unusual conditions.
  • Wear PPE gear at all times including hard hat, safety glasses, and steel toed boots while working.
  • Perform duties as needed in keeping the scrapyard operational.

  • Minimum education level – completion of High School or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 Year of experience working in a manufacturing, production, or similar scrapyard environment.
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Strong communication skills – communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and over mobile radio devices.
  • Strong work ethic – uses time efficiently, works safely, and ensure everyone around him/her is working safely.
  • Responsible for handling, moving, and disposing of scrap metal material in a safe manner.
  • Strong attention to detail with close visual attention for sustained/long periods of time.
  • Safety conscious and orientated.
  • Comfortable working in all types of variable weather conditions.
  • Has a reliable form of transportation to and from work.

Starting wage for the Pickers and Torch Cutters is $15.74 and $18.45 for the Metal Sorter with incremental increases as defined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). This is a full-time permanent year round position that offers a full comprehensive benefit and pension package. Pickers and Metal Sorters work a 7 day on, 7 day off schedule with 12 hour shifts that are scheduled from 7AM-7PM or 7PM-7AM on a rotational basis. The Torch Cutter is a standard Monday to Friday job with work hours from 7AM-3:30PM each day.

Candidates for this position must clearly indicate on their resume that they have completed High School or have their GED equivalent to meet minimum educational requirements as well as demonstrate that they have previously worked in a similar work environment such as manufacturing, production, or scrapyard recycling.

The successful candidate will be asked to undergo a Fitness To Work and Alcohol & Drug test upon a conditional offer of employment being extended. The successful candidate will also be asked to provide us with a supervisory reference check and fill out an employment application after a conditional offer has been extended.
