City: Regina / State: Saskatchewan                                                   


At EVRAZ North America, we manufacture engineered steel products for rail, energy and industrial end markets at six production sites located in the USA (Portland, Oregon; Pueblo, Colorado) and Canada (Regina, Saskatchewan; Calgary, Camrose and Red Deer, Alberta). We are the largest North American producer by volume in the rail and large diameter pipe markets, and we hold leading positions in the Western Canada oil country tubular goods, small diameter pipe and West Coast plate markets.

 

 



Job Description and Responsibilities

 

EVRAZ North America has an opening for a Process Engineer at our steel manufacturing facility in Regina. The Process Engineer works to find innovative solutions to improve the processes that are used to make steel from scrap through melting, casting and rolling. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to apply engineering theory, data analysis and problem solving techniques. This role works in conjunction with the operations, maintenance, quality and engineering departments to improve safety, quality and productivity to reduce costs wherever possible.

 

  • Collaborate with operations personnel to gain a deep understanding of the processes
  • Liaise with  with quality assurance department to understand the products and how they are measured
  • Understand equipment limitations, collaborate with maintenance personnel to continually improve equipment performance
  • Develop strong vendor relationships in an effort to understand the equipment and software process models they provide
  • Develop strategies to reduce defects, delays and other missed opportunities
  • Gather data and ensure that the data recorded accurately represents the process
  • Analyze data and produce proof-of-concept models for process improvement
  • Maintain and improve third-party software process models that are no longer supported by vendors
  • Maintain and improve in-house software process models
  • Monitor and improve model performance via analysis of measured data
  • Develop training tools to help team members across the organization gain a better understanding of the process



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, Manufacturing or Materials Science Engineering with an emphasis on control theory and statistical analysis
  • 3-5 years of experience, preferably in the steel industry or manufacturing
  • Software development training and/or experience
  • Lean training and experience, an asset
  • Adaptive software process models experience and/or training, an asset
  • Creative problem solver with well-developed data analysis skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively individually and in multidisciplinary groups with members from all levels of the organization
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with opposing opinions and to lead a team to making the best decisions based on data
  • Knowledge of group problem solving techniques such as brainstorming, value stream mapping and/or Kaizen events
  • Able to read through complicated algorithms and/or source code to identify problems or areas for improvement and propose solutions
  • Willing and able to support the 24 hour operation through variable shifts and/or off-hours telephone support
