Process Automation Engineer

City: Regina / State: Saskatchewan                                                   


At EVRAZ North America, we manufacture engineered steel products for rail, energy and industrial end markets at six production sites located in the USA (Portland, Oregon; Pueblo, Colorado) and Canada (Regina, Saskatchewan; Calgary, Camrose and Red Deer, Alberta). We are the largest North American producer by volume in the rail and large diameter pipe markets, and we hold leading positions in the Western Canada oil country tubular goods, small diameter pipe and West Coast plate markets.

 

 



Job Description and Responsibilities

 

EVRAZ NA is seeking a Process Automation Engineer at our Regina facility. As part of the Engineering team this role is responsible to increase the production and shipping of quality product by improving equipment availability and utilization as well as finding innovative solutions to manufacturing problems. Incumbents will work closely with production, quality and maintenance departments to identify and resolve potential areas of improvement and then work towards implementing solutions and to ensure that the equipment and process is effectively producing prime quality products.

 

  • Support tubular and steelmaking production and maintenance teams
  • Design, develop, and implement control systems (hardware & software) to improve production times, steel quality, equipment performance, energy consumption, down-time reduction, and process automation
  • Obtain complete understanding of company process control systems and their impact on the production line beginning with scrap melting through refining steel, liquid to solid transformation and finished product
  • Make recommendations for development action; analyze, modify and improve programmable logic controllers (PLC) and human-machine interfaces (HMI)
  • Design and monitor performance indicators, create the necessary bridges between control site and company information systems
  • Provide on-going maintenance support and resolution of process control system problems, including taking ownership of such problems to completion
  • Write requirements specifications, and high-level design and systems architecture specifications related to control of steel production processes
  • Project management responsibilities



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Automated Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent technical education
  • Minimum of three years’ work experience
  • Experience in the manufacturing field
  • Control logic programming languages and tools
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical and hydraulic schematics
  • Experience with logical circuitry and troubleshooting logical circuits
  • Hands on Experience in control theory (Feed Back, Feed Forward and sequencing concepts and application)
  • Heavy industrial process automation experience, preferably in a spiral welded pipe facility
  • Strong computer skills with experience in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated ability to follow standards in automation and control software discipline
  • Adept at working with technical manuals
