Job Description and Responsibilities

We are currently seeking an Operations Support Engineer to join our growing team. The Operations Support Engineer will be one of Steelmaking’s primary resources responsible for gathering, analyzing, and reporting data related to developing and targeting specific improvement projects. This position will work closely with Steelmaking plant and operational managers to support operational goals and provide data analysis and reports to help identify targeted areas for process improvement. The Operations Support Engineer will act as liaison between managers / supervisors and steel making employees and provide data support and help identify targeted solutions to improve consistency and eliminate variation throughout the process. This individual will ensure they understand key stakeholder needs within the operations and be available to coach and lead teams to achieve results.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Steelmaking Management staff by utilizing data analysis to identify potential improvement areas and development of auto reporting of all major KPI’s for use by Steel Making Leadership to set direction for improvement initiatives
  • Act as liaison between managers / supervisors and steel making employees and provide data support and help identify targeted solutions to improve consistency and eliminate variation throughout the process
  • Relate well to individuals through-out the organization in teaching and coaching others on the best way to identify improvement initiatives
  • Ability to drive projects to completion by influencing the decision making process
  • Utilize internal and external resources and lead them through improvement phases
  • Assist and support plant management in a way that is perceived as partnering to add value in the area of plant data analysis and improvement initiatives
  • Influencing / Leveraging and working without direct authority while maintain working relationships to achieve projects results.
  • Simultaneously drive multiple process improvements throughout Steelmaking



Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy or Material Science support discipline or an equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Graduate degree in a Support or business discipline, preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in Statistical Process and Control
  • Proficient in Excel and other data analysis tools
  • Ability to work on his or his own and motivation to continue with value added investigation until no viable solution exist
  • Excellent analytical skills and aiding to understand the optimum process change solutions
  • Experience in coaching and influencing others to achieve results
  • Leadership experience in working with and leading cross functional teams
  • Critical thinking skills to understand the strategic direction of the business and weigh the economic cost befit of the improvement initiatives
