Modeling Engineer

City: Regina / State: Saskatchewan                                                   


At EVRAZ North America, we manufacture engineered steel products for rail, energy and industrial end markets at six production sites located in the USA (Portland, Oregon; Pueblo, Colorado) and Canada (Regina, Saskatchewan; Calgary, Camrose and Red Deer, Alberta). We are the largest North American producer by volume in the rail and large diameter pipe markets, and we hold leading positions in the Western Canada oil country tubular goods, small diameter pipe and West Coast plate markets.

 

 



Job Description and Responsibilities

 

The Modeling Engineer/Specialist will be associated with EVRAZ’s Research group and will be located in the Research facility in Regina.  The individual will perform specialized processes/products/equipment modeling and optimization.  You will work closely with the Research Engineer to provide technical support to all EVRAZ North America facilities.

  • Create process models (e.g., steel rolling) to drive process understanding, performance improvements, and guide process optimization efforts, using commercial software packages or developing in-house codes where applicable
  • Create product models (e.g., casing connections) to evaluate design feasibility and assess product performance, and to provide guidance for product modifications
  • Create equipment models (e.g., mill housing) to analyze failures and/or propose equipment upgrade options
  • Validate modeling results using mill plant trials, laboratory tests, pilot studies, empirical data or other resources
  • Work in a team environment with research, technical, operational and other professionals to implement the models in manufacturing processes
  • Communicate results and recommend further actions
  • Provide technical support to Sales in promoting new products, developing new applications and addressing technical inquiries



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Applicants should possess a B.Sc. in Engineering
  • Experience in FEA and/or CFD modeling (Abaqus, Ansys, Fluent, Star-CCM+, etc.) is preferred
  • Attention to details is an asset
  • A general knowledge of steelmaking, hot rolling, pipe making and heat treating is beneficial
  • Candidates must be proficient in verbal and written English and exhibit good presentation skills
  • The Regina Research facility operates an H2S Corrosion laboratory
  • All employees are expected have the ability to participate on the Research H2S rescue team including the ability to drag a 150 lb weight while wearing self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and remain clean-shaven
