Job Description and Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Technician to join our team at our Pueblo, CO location. 

As a Mechanical Technician, you will provide all necessary mechanical maintenance to all areas of the Mill in a safe and efficient manner. You will be responsible for Mechanical maintenance, installation, repair, assembly or dismantling of mechanical equipment such as gear boxes, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, pumps, packings, seals, piping and valves, mechanical power transmission and drive systems, couplings, shaft alignments, lubricants, overhead cranes and other heavy industrial equipment. You will trouble shoot, determine and obtain parts, and make necessary repairs to Mill Machinery.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serving the function(s) of a Boilermaker, Millwright, Pipefitter and Welder depending upon training and certification
  • Completing the training program to become skilled in all four of the crafts mentioned above
  • Taking control of any situation to install, repair, assemble or dismantle anything in the Mill
  • Working with all Shops machines and equipment, mobile equipment of every kind, all structures, production equipment, systems, appropriate hand, power and measuring tools, prints and drawings and necessary safety equipment
  • Observing lockout procedures
  • Keeping work area and equipment clean and orderly
  • Performing routine maintenance and assisting Maintenance personnel
  • Operating overhead cranes as needed



Job Requirements

As a Mechanical Technician, you must be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision and manage your time when given multiple tasks. It is also important that you have excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with your colleagues.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have completed or have the equivalence of a craft apprenticeship in one of the following four crafts: Boilermaker, Millwright, Pipefitter and Welder
  • Strong background in hydraulic/pneumatic troubleshooting and repair skills
  • Must be able to read, understand and work from Mechanical Prints, drawings and schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting, repair and installation skills
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and mobile equipment qualification
  • Prior training in the operation of overhead cranes
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds
  • Physical ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, etc.
  • Willingness to work in both inside and outside environmental conditions with exposure to elevated noise levels, vibrations and extreme cold or heat
  • Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license and a mobile equipment qualification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in heavy industry, manufacturing, or mining; or experience working with machinery, equipment operation or a closely related field
  • HS Diploma or GED and a demonstrated pattern of stable work history
  • 12 Months experience in Machine Operation and General Labor.  Work Conditions: Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Exposed to elevated noise levels and vibrations, and extreme cold and heat. Physical Hazards – Close proximity to moving parts and electrical currents, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat, hot surfaces, molten metal, chemicals, oils and lubricants. Atmospheric conditions may require use of a respirator
  • Essential Physical Activities: Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, carry, finger, grasp, feel, talk to communicate, speak over public address system, hear, and make repetitive motions. Needs to see to perform maintenance tasks and drive. Constantly exerts forces up to 50 pounds and frequently exerts forces up to 100 pounds to lift, carry, push and pull
