Job Description and Responsibilities

 

EVRAZ NA is seeking a Metallurgical Engineer at our Camrose, Alberta facility. This role is supports pipe manufacturing Quality Assurance (QA) activities by coordinating product and process improvements, supplier performance improvement as well as defining and improving metallurgical lab testing practices. This role will also assist with maintaining a robust Quality Management System (QMS).

 

  • Analyze and statistically assess supplier quality performance and assist in issue resolution,
  • Coordinate and report on supplier product and process qualification and improvement trials
  • Keep current with the latest market, product and process trends/developments and expand knowledge of supplier manufacturing capabilities
  • Conduct product metallurgical/failure analyses (often in coordination with Research and Development) to synthesize complex technical information into meaningful conclusions and prepare comprehensive reports-related process and product improvement initiatives
  • In conjunction with the lab supervisor, develop and continually improve lab testing practices in accordance with industry best practices
  • In conjunction with the lab supervisor, develop methodologies to improve lab testing efficiency
  • Participate in and advance new QA technologies on site
  • Stay abreast of and maintain a deep understanding for the requirements of national and international tubular product and testing standards and understands the related customer specifications
  • Determine the statistical capability of mechanical and metallurgical properties to ensure consistent conformity
  • Assist in the administration and improvement of the quality system to maintain compliance with quality standards
  • Address, resolve and formalize internal and minor external quality complaints to prevent reoccurrence



 



Job Requirements

 

  • University degree in Metallurgical/Materials Engineering and 5+ years of experience
  • Good knowledge of steel processes and tubular products
  • Solid understanding of failure analysis and fractography
  • Demonstrated problem solving (including root cause analysis), statistical analysis and planning abilities
  • Proficient in MS Office suite of programs
  • Excellent communication, presentation and report writing skills
  • Ability to work effectively with hourly and management ranks
  • Mechanical, metallographic or chemical testing lab experience, an asset
  • Six-sigma green belt or better qualifications, preferred
  • Trained and certified in quality auditing, preferred
