Mechanical Engineering Technologist - Regina

City: Regina / State: Saskatchewan                                                   


At EVRAZ North America, we manufacture engineered steel products for rail, energy and industrial end markets at six production sites located in the USA (Portland, Oregon; Pueblo, Colorado) and Canada (Regina, Saskatchewan; Calgary, Camrose and Red Deer, Alberta). We are the largest North American producer by volume in the rail and large diameter pipe markets, and we hold leading positions in the Western Canada oil country tubular goods, small diameter pipe and West Coast plate markets.

 

 



Job Description and Responsibilities

 

 

EVRAZ has an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Technologist in our Regina Engineering group.  The successful candidate will assist with production improvements through the efficient and effective design and use of mechanical equipment. This involves research, analysis of technical data, the preparation of alternatives, review of specifications, equipment estimates and the supervision of the installation.

 

  • Supervise and be accountable for crews, both internal and external, when working on projects
  • Research and resolve drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences and errors
  • Create and update mechanical assembly drawings and assist in drawings interpretation
  • Prepare and maintain models and drawings using Inventor or AutoCAD
  • Manage the drawing system for the site
  • Prepare design calculations, stress analysis and other technical/engineering reports
  • Initiate and complete design changes
  • Develop project cost, timeline, plan and scope of work
  • Plan installation schedules and allocate resources accordingly
  • Provide technical assistance for projects including carrying out field measurements
  • Coordinate projects or tasks with technical staff and contractors as per project plans
  • Provide Project Management assistance to various sites when requested
  • Participate with EVRAZ staff in developing solutions to reoccurring problems
  • Apply reliability techniques to improve equipment availability
  • Assist in the preparation of high quality reports on time
  • Understand and assess material handling and large scale industrial manufacturing equipment
  • Actively participate in team meetings and company initiatives
  • Lead, assist or participate in meetings, improvement projects, safety initiatives and rapid improvement events
  • Perform other administrative and technical duties as required



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma with 5+ years of experience and currently registered or, the ability to register with ASET on the first work day
  • Excellent organizational skills, goal and detail oriented
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a fast paced multi-disciplinary work environment while managing multiple tasks and/or projects
  • Self motivated, innovative and willing to take on new challenges
  • Analytical with excellent problem solving abilities (theoretical and practical)
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly related to MS Office Suite, Computer Assisted Drawing (CAD) and engineering software
  • Able to read and understand mechanical assembly drawings, and hydraulic/pneumatic schematics
  • Must be able to demonstrate a work history in a heavy industrial manufacturing setting
  • Experience and high interest in shop floor manufacturing activities
  • Willingness to work at a variety of locations within North America as required by department project load
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule in rough weather conditions, required 
  • Valid driver’s license
