Job Description and Responsibilities

 

EVRAZ NA Camrose has an opening for a Mechanical Engineering Co-op student for an 8, 12 or 16 month term. EVRAZ provides an excellent learning environment for engineering students. Our Engineering team is spread out across Western Canada (Calgary, Red Deer, Camrose Alberta and Regina Saskatchewan).

The goal of our co‐op program is to develop future engineering resources for our organization while providing support to our Engineering team which is comprised of Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Industrial Engineers, Engineering Designers, Engineering Drafters and Engineering Coordinator.

As a member of the Tubular Products Group Engineering team, you will assist on various CAPEX, Investment and improvement projects and contribute to the technical competence and production requirements of the manufacturing facilities.

 

  • Work with the engineering team to provide project stakeholders and sponsors with finished projects in a timely manner
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues; this includes collecting and coordinating useful information
  • Participate in discussions with Project Managers and Project Engineers
  • Lead department meetings and prepare meeting minutes
  • Collaborate to prepare engineering design, specification and/or recommendations in: OEM pipe forming and finishing equipment, equipment selection and specification, mechanical design details, safety improvement projects and/or product quality improvement initiatives
  • Create and maintain project documentation (request for quote, scope of work, task breakdown structures, project scheduling, budget estimating, etc.)
  • Develop detailed mechanical and equipment layout drawings
  • Conduct equipment evaluations with the support of senior staff
  • Participate in facility evaluations and assist in technical report writing
  • Complete design and specification drawings with support from the engineering team
  • Assist in the design routine mechanical details and write technical specifications
  • Lead by example by actively embodying EVRAZ’s and the Engineering department’s culture and values



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Must be enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering Degree program from a recognized university
  • Exposure to equipment selection and specification methods
  • Knowledge of auxiliary mechanical systems used in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Understand mechanical design details and experience interpreting basic multi-disciplinary, plan and profile drawings
  • Experience with CAD software such as Autodesk products, Ex. Inventor and productivity software such as MS Word, Excel and Project; AutoCAD an asset
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of personal initiative and ownership of results, desire to work on a high performing team in a fast-paced industrial environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization exhibiting a high degree of professionalism
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate clearly and succinctly
  • Effective organizational and time management skills, ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet established deadlines
  • Flexibility in acceptance of assignments and schedules; desire to learn new skills and expand competencies
