Job Description and Responsibilities

 

EVRAZ NA has an opening for a Mechanical Engineering Co-op student in Red Deer, Alberta. Terms can be 8, 12 or 16 months. EVRAZ provides an excellent learning environment for engineering students. Our Engineering team is spread out across Western Canada (Calgary, Red Deer Alberta and Regina Saskatchewan).

 The goal of our co‐op student program is to develop future engineering resources for our organization while providing support to our Engineering team which is comprised of Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Industrial Engineers and Engineering Technologists.

 As a member of the Tubular Products Group Engineering team, the successful candidate will assist with various CapEx, Investment and improvement projects as well as contribute to the technical competence and production capabilities of the manufacturing facilities.

  • Work with the engineering team to manage engineered drawing database
  • Collect and coordinate useful information and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Lead department meetings and prepare meeting minutes
  • Collaborate with colleagues to prepare engineering designs, specifications and/or recommendations for pipe forming and finishing equipment, fluid power systems, HVAC systems, safety improvement projects and/or product quality improvement initiatives
  • Create and maintain project documentation (Request for Quote, Scope of Work, Task Breakdown Structure, Project Schedule, Budget Estimate, etc.)
  • Organize and maintain engineering drawings
  • Develop detailed mechanical drawings and equipment layouts
  • Conduct equipment evaluations with the support of senior staff
  • Participate in facility evaluations and develop technical reports
  • Demonstrate EVRAZ’s core values in each task and interaction



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering Degree program from a recognized university
  • Strong mechanical intuition with an understanding of basic machining and fabricating processes
  • Familiarity with basic mechanical machinery parts and components
  • Exposure to equipment selection and specification methods
  • Knowledge of auxiliary mechanical systems used in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Understand mechanical design details with experience interpreting multi-disciplinary, plan and profile drawings
  • Experience with CAD software, i.e. Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD or similar
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate clearly and succinctly
  • Self-motivated with a desire to work on a high performing team in a fast-paced industrial environment
