Job Description and Responsibilities

 

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team in Red Deer. EVRAZ provides an excellent learning environment for an engineering Intern. Our Engineering team is spread out across North America (Portland Oregon, Calgary, Red Deer, Camrose Alberta, and Regina Saskatchewan).

The goal of our co‐op program is to develop future engineering resources for our organization while providing support to our Engineering Team (Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Industrial Engineers, Engineering Designers, Engineering Drafters, Engineering Coordinator).

We structure the co‐op assignments so that the candidates develop with each new work term to accept an increasing level of complexity and self‐reliance. It is our goal to have our Interns fully capable of stepping into a full‐time engineering position after a degree is attained.

With the collaboration of the EVRAZ Tubular Products Group Engineering team, you will assist on various CAPEX, investment and improvement projects, and contribute to the technical competence and production requirements of the manufacturing facilities.

 Responsibilities

  • Work with the team providing our project stakeholders and sponsors with finished projects in a timely manner
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues; this includes collecting and coordinating useful information as well as participating in discussions with Project Managers and Project Engineers
  • Under supervision, prepare engineering design, specification and/or recommendations for a variety of the following:
    • OEM pipe forming and finishing equipment
    • equipment selection and specification
    • mechanical design details
    • Safety improvement projects
    • Product quality improvement initiatives
  • Create and maintain project documentation (request for quote, scope of work, task breakdown structures, project scheduling, budget estimating, etc.)
  • Develop detailed mechanical and equipment layout drawings and conduct equipment evaluations with the support of senior staff
  • Participate in facility evaluations and assist in technical report writing, and under supervision complete design and specification drawings
  • Under supervision design routine mechanical details, and write technical specifications
  • Actively perpetuate and embody EVRAZ and engineering department culture and values



 



Job Requirements

 

Education

  • Enrolled in Mechanical Engineering Degree program from a recognized university

Qualifications

  • Have an understanding of:
    • CAD software (Autodesk products, Ex. Inventor, AutoCAD an asset)
    • Productivity software such as MS Word, Excel and Project
    • equipment selection and specification methods
    • mechanical design details
    • Auxiliary mechanical systems used in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Good interpersonal skills; a person who listens well, respects diversity of opinions and has an open, clear and succinct communication style
  • Effective organizational and time management skills in handling multiple projects, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines
  • Ability to represent the EVRAZ engineering department to production employees and other staff, by ensuring the best image is presented
  • Build an understanding and gain a competency of engineering calculations and principles with accurate, clear design notes
  • Understanding the ethical application of technical work
  • Able to interpret; basic multi-disciplinary drawings, basic plan and profile drawings
  • Demonstrates punctuality
  • Shows pride in work performed
  • Demonstrates flexibility in acceptance of assignments and schedules
  • Maintains professional behavior and appearance
  • Exhibits dependability
