Job Description and Responsibilities

 

We are seeking a motivated Manager, Scrap Procurement & Material Sourcing to join our North America Recycling team.  In this role, you will be responsible for the procurement of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap at our steelmaking facility in Regina. You will also be coordinating activities with Melt Shop Superintendent, Site Managers and Regional Yard Buyers. This role reports to the Director of Operations for our recycling business. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to initiate business, possess strong negotiation, communication and problem-solving skills.

 

  • Management and oversight of the procurement of ferrous scrap and scrap substitutes
  • Monitor and maintain continuity of supply, as well as the safety-related and environmental aspects of materials purchased
  • Represent the Recycling group on local management team, manage corporate efforts in support of the EVRAZ Regina steelmaking facility
  • Manage, develop and execute the monthly scrap buying plan through consultation with the managers at the mill, monitoring results and adjusting plans as needed
  • Investigate new sources of scrap develop relationships leading to the procurement of all grades required for the scrap processing facilities
  • Meet in person with current and potential suppliers to establish and maintain effective market relationships
  • Conduct market research and forecasting duties to coordinate the development of short and long-term purchasing strategies
  • Prepare analysis of material costs, including how freight influences overall costs and support a position or strategy
  • Share market intelligence and collaboration with senior level management of EINA scrap procurement organization
  • Settle discrepancies within management guidelines and maintaining quality standards and coordination of ongoing supply chain activities



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Must be comfortable with traveling up to 30% of the year to local supplier locations
  • Prior procurement experience in the scrap recycling industry is preferred but not required
  • High degree of goal-orientation with the ability to meet or exceed objectives with minimal guidance
  • Strong interpersonal skills that allow you to work efficiently and effectively with cross-departmental teams
  • Able to perform statistical analysis and in-depth market research
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
  • Scrap Management software experience is highly preferred
