Job Description and Responsibilities

A successful Loader will be able to lead a shipping crew to ensure on-time shipment of steel plate and coil. In this position you may be asked to fill in for a shipping supervisor as needed.

 

  • Plan daily movement, processing and storage of steel plate for maximum efficiency
  • Monitor and direct product movement working closely with the shift supervisor, coordinator, crane operators and chasers to ensure efficiency and on-time shipment
  • Product movement includes but not limited to loading trucks, rail cars, organizing and pre-packing material for future shipments
  • Product awareness including product being processed in in-process locations and priorities for each location to ensure proper material is being processed for on-time shipment
  • Ensure crew members are following all safety rules and regulations, address any issues and report issues to the shift supervisor
  • Utilize available resources to make decisions within the scope of responsibility
  • Monitor the quality of material being moved or loaded and bring any anomalies to the shift supervisor’s attention
  • Keep accurate and legible records
  • Maintains clean and safe work area
  • Data entry into hand held computer terminal



Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of all shipping departments
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong leadership and training skills
  • Ability to learn, retain, and apply new knowledge
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn and accept changes in job duties
  • Good math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, accurate number identification
  • Computer knowledge for basic data entry
  • Ability to pass a basic computer test and a numbers retention test
  • Able to work in environment subject to fluctuations in heat, humidity, fumes, odors, dust, noise and rain.
  • Must be willing to work rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays and overtime
  • Requires extensive standing, walking and periodic lifting of materials
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
