Job Description and Responsibilities

EVRAZ NA currently seeks an Environmental Manager to join our growing team at our Regina, Canada location!  If needed, relocation assistance may be provided for well qualified individual. 

The Environmental Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and licenses, and with environmental management system requirements for the EVRAZ Operations in Canada. This includes ensuring that the proper monitoring and reporting is undertaken, and undertaking and supervising environmental projects and studies. This position also will provide support to other EVRAZ facilities. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring Compliance with Legislation: With primary responsibility for the Regina facilities, and secondarily supporting Alberta Operations, ensure Canadian compliance with environmental and related legislation and licenses in the operation, monitoring, maintenance and construction of related works and exceed compliance when feasible by:
    • Undertaking / expediting / supervising monitoring, report preparation and submission, inspections, operations, written programs, studies and construction projects.
    • Provide environmental expertise on environmental projects.
    • Supporting EVRAZ facilities in compliance, permitting, and regulatory liaison activities.
    • Developing, in conjunction with management, balanced project budgets, cost estimates and Requests for Expenditure, for the Operations and Corporate budgeting cycles.
    • Providing support through routine contact with Operations, and communicating policies.
    • Being the point of contact for regulatory inspections.
    • For the Regina Operations, attending routine Operations meetings weekly and periodic House Keeping tours.
  • Preparing Action Plans: Ensure that environmental action plans are maintained for the Company’s Canadian facilities, and identify / resolve plan items on a timely basis.
  • Ensuring Preparedness and Training: Ensure that the Company’s Canadian operations are prepared for environmental risks and ensure / facilitate the preparation of environmental preparedness and response programs and manuals, and the training of personnel and contractors.
  • Maintaining Records and Knowledge: Ensure, that records required for Operations’ compliance are maintained, and that current knowledge to assist the Company to minimize environmental liability and maintain environmental standards, is kept up.
  • Auditing: Perform regular environmental audit programs, taking a proactive stance on environmental issues wherever feasible. This includes inspections, and internal and external audits of environmental compliance, and of the environmental management system, for the operations and related contractors.
  • Ensuring Compliance with the Management System: Ensure compliance of the Canadian Operations with the corporate environmental management system, undertake related actions and assist in the continued development of the system.
  • Maintaining the Reminder System: Ensure that the ‘Bring Forward’ reminder system is maintained, and that key future compliance dates are anticipated and met.
  • Other Duties: Complete other duties, such as:
    • Items assigned by the Director of Environmental Affairs for Canada.
    • Provide environmental support to other EVRAZ facilities as assigned.
    • Prepare and circulate internal environmental reports as required.
    • Maintain contacts with business and professional environmental organizations.
    • Promote environmental protection throughout the Corporation in Canada, and its associated communities.



Job Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in Engineering required.
  • At least ten (10) years related environmental experience. 
  • Solid background/ experience with Air permitting.
  • Environmental specialization and experience acquired in heavy industry (steel), government (regulatory) or environmental / engineering consulting is required.
  • Seasoned technical knowledge of related science/engineering principles and federal / provincial / state and municipal laws and environmental legislation applicable to EVRAZ sites. Previous background leading technical projects and/ or contractors required.
  • Must have sound judgment of environmental issues and associated financial implications,
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Supervisory capability and the ability to work cooperatively, implement broadly defined environmental policies, manage complicated projects and administer a budget are desired characteristics. 
  • Possession and application of creative problem-solving skills, coupled with strong planning, organizing and analytical abilities is desired.
  • Working Conditions: The position is stationed in the main office of the Canadian operations at Regina Saskatchewan.  Frequent attendance in the industrial operations, and meetings with regulators will be part of the work.  Moderate travel will also be required to other Canadian locations.
