Job Description and Responsibilities

The Environmental Engineer provides technical support concerning environmental programs to all operating departments at EVRAZ NA, ensures compliance with the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act by successfully managing Title V and NPDES permits and identifies opportunities for environmental program development, regulatory agency cooperation and cost cutting initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of Air permits and regulations thru data collection, reporting, renewals, and submissions to government agencies
  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of NPDES water permit and regulations
  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) relating to management of industrial waste. 
  • Ensure the daily operational up time of all Ambient Air monitoring systems
  • Ensure the daily operation and up time for water sampling and monitoring equipment
  • Collects environmental media samples as needed
  • Represents EVRAZ NA during meetings and correspondence with regulatory agencies as directed
  • Able to work effectively with both hourly and management personnel
  • Analyze regulatory agency issued environmental operating permits and develop and enhance programs to ensure operating department environmental practices comply with permitted legal and regulatory requirements  
  • Develop project scope, evaluate received project bids, select project contractors, and manage on-site contract personnel during environmental projects
  • Develop environmental compliance trends by developing data acquisition systems and analyzing collected environmental data
  • Assist operating department managers to interpret environmental data trends which influence an operating area’s production parameters
  • Participate in meetings and negotiations with both State and Federal regulatory agencies concerning past and continued operation as directed
  • Prepare required detailed technical reports for submission to State and Federal regulatory agencies  
  • Closely interact with production, maintenance, and administrative personnel to clearly communicate complex environmental issues
  • Write technical reports summarizing key findings and identifying next steps and technical project specifications
  • Experience working with interdepartmental teams at all levels of management to accomplish tasks  
  • Assist with Environmental Department needs during staff absences and vacations
  • Additional duties as assigned by Department Manager



Job Requirements

 

  • Bachelor Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Services or related Engineering focus
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in environmental management; strong background in air permitting and compliance required
  • Experience in heavy industrial manufacturing and knowledge of steel making practices and techniques including is preferred
  • Stack testing and instrumentation background an asset
  • Certified in HazMat, HazWaste, DOT Shipping an asset
  • Self-starter with the proven ability to work autonomously
  • Exceptional teamwork, communication (oral and written), administrative and organizational skills
