City: Regina / State: Saskatchewan                                                   


At EVRAZ North America, we manufacture engineered steel products for rail, energy and industrial end markets at six production sites located in the USA (Portland, Oregon; Pueblo, Colorado) and Canada (Regina, Saskatchewan; Calgary, Camrose and Red Deer, Alberta). We are the largest North American producer by volume in the rail and large diameter pipe markets, and we hold leading positions in the Western Canada oil country tubular goods, small diameter pipe and West Coast plate markets.

 

 



Job Description and Responsibilities

 

EVRAZ NA is currently seeking a Director of Research and Development (R&D) for our Regina based R&D Center. This key leadership role provides guidance and direction to the R&D team in Product Development for EVRAZ’s steel making operations. In this role you will also offer technical support for new product development, cost improvement initiatives, claims review, manufacturing operations and regulatory concerns. Other key responsibilities include: developing and delivering products and formulations that meet customer insights, leveraging your experience and team judgment to move quickly and efficiently. You will work with outside partners and in multi-functional teams interacting with the leadership team regularly.

 

  • Contribute to the accomplishment of key performance indicators including safety, quality, production, cost and development
  • Provide to Sales, Sourcing, Quality and Manufacturing teams as needed
  • Provide support to North American teams, including advising on new product development efforts
  • Provides strategic vision and leadership to shape processes and best practices for an agile workforce
  • Understand and demonstrate safe work practices at all times to ensure a safe work environment
  • Assist in hiring and training new department personnel
  • Promote a strong positive team spirit and work to develop a culture that is positive and rooted in respect as well as accountability
  • Actively providing coaching, development and supervision for R&D staff
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures
  • Work with Marketing to help define product concepts and advise on technical issues relative to implementation
  • Direct formulation development and testing to meet project objectives. This includes development of new products, product improvements, and cost savings initiatives
  • Keep current on new developments in the area of steel making and forming
  • Lead and monitor product development in compliance with established Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures



 



Job Requirements

 

  • MS or PhD in Metallurgy
  • 15+ years of previous experience in product development in the areas of steel making and forming; extensive industry related R&D and innovation knowledge in the steel industry preferred
  • Domestic and international regulatory experience
  • Ability to manage a team, demonstrated leadership, communication and interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Superb coaching and mentoring skills
  • Ability to work with multi-functional teams and effectively interface with external partners
  • Project management skill and cross functional team leadership skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and execute multiple projects in a timely manner
  • Exceptional problem solving, critical thinking and decision making abilities
  • Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Experience presenting to executive audiences
  • Creative, highly motivated and self-starting
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity
