City: Camrose / State: Alberta                                                   


At EVRAZ North America, we manufacture engineered steel products for rail, energy and industrial end markets at six production sites located in the USA (Portland, Oregon; Pueblo, Colorado) and Canada (Regina, Saskatchewan; Calgary, Camrose and Red Deer, Alberta). Job Description and Responsibilities

 

EVRAZ NA is seeking a Continuous Improvement Specialist for our Camrose facility. This role requires knowledge of engineering theories and Lean six sigma along with excellent problem solving techniques. Working collaboratively with production, planning, maintenance and engineering departments you will provide support to refine operating and maintenance methodology in an effort to increase production and decrease costs. Additionally, you will assist operations to forecast efficiency impacts such as: improvement to productivity, yield, labor and cost when changes to existing lines and new lines are being designed. Taking into account product mix and projects, you will also contribute to the development of key performance indicators for production.  This role reports to the Continuous Improvement Leader.

 

  • Utilize lean Six Sigma tools to support continues improvement of plant performance
  • Facilitate application and use of Lean Six Sigma tools to setup CI culture
  • Develop and improve on process flow and value stream maps
  • Analysis of material flows, determining potential improvements to reduce pipe Rework and handling
  • Analysis of optimized plant load balance, determines best crew levels per line depending on tons to be produced
  • Analysis of headcount per line, determines operators availability based on work load
  • Evaluation of cycle times, determines cycle activities subject to improvement, conducts bench marks with similar lines to determine actions to improve cycle times
  • Analysis of change overs, utilizes single minute exchange of dyes (SMED) type methodology to improve change over times
  • Analysis of material yield losses, determines technological losses vs. scrap losses, recommend potential technological and control improvements to reduce yield losses
  • Standardize plant operations with the goal of minimizing process yield loss and providing exceptional quality products and services
  • Train and develop employees to assure operational flexibility and responsiveness, and increase technical knowledge
  • Identify, prioritize, coordinate and monitor process improvements for the plant regarding waste reduction, throughput improvement, and quality enhancement
  • Analysis of conversion cost, break down between price and consumption, assist in determining actions to reduce consumption or alternatives to overall improve cost per ton
  • Supports engineering designs of new lines or modifications to existing lines to have optimal performance
  • Supports engineering team to calculate investment benefits (IRR, NPV, etc.)



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Industrial Engineer, Engineering Technologist, other engineering disciplines will be considered, experience in industrial/related engineering is required
  • Lean six sigma training (Green belt) and experience is preferred
  • Project Management knowledge and strong sense of project completion
  • Experience working within continuous improvement teams and environments
  • Experience effecting culture change through data driven decision making
  • Experience developing KPIs and standard work procedures
  • 1-5 years’ industry experience
  • Knowledge of simulation software (i.e. Arena or Process Simulator), preferred
  • Experience using advanced MS word, excel, project and outlook features
