Job Description and Responsibilities

 

We are seeking a qualified Raw Materials Purchasing Agent to join our General Scrap team. In this role, you will be responsible for the procurement of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap for our processing facility in Manitoba. You will also be coordinating activities with regional General Managers, Site Managers, Regional Yard Buyers, and Mill Buyers, as well as Transportation, Operations and Accounting personnel. This role reports to the Director of Business Development. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to initiate business, possess strong negotiating, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Investigating new sources of scrap and developing relationships leading to the procurement of all grades required for the Scrap Processing facilities
  • Prepare analysis of material costs, including how freight influences overall costs and support a position or strategy
  • Develop optimum total market cost strategies
  • Settle discrepancies within management guidelines, maintaining quality standards and coordinating ongoing supply chain activities
  • Monitor and maintain continuity of supply, as well as the safety-related and environmental aspects of materials purchased
  • Conducting market research and forecasting duties to coordinate the development of short and long-term purchasing strategies
  • Meet in person with current and potential suppliers to establish and maintain effective market relationships
  • Coordinate travel to meet in person with current and potential suppliers to establish and maintain effective market relationships



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a metal manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field, a combination of experience/education will also be considered
  • Demonstrated procurement and process expertise in the scrap recycling industry
  • Experience with statistical analysis and in-depth market research
  • High degree of initiative with a capacity to achieve goals under minimal supervision
  • Proven ability to function effectively as a strong member of a cross-functional team
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) as well as Scrap Management software
  • Aptitude for solving complex supply chain problems while fostering inter-department collaboration
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) as well as Scrap Management software
  • Strong oral and written skills
  • Offsite travel will be required
