Job Description and Responsibilities

EVRAZ Regina is seeking Yard Manager in our Steel Division. This role is responsible for directing the day-to-day operations of a scrap metal recycling yard, including the supervision of employees engaged in the daily intake, weighing, sorting, loading and unloading of scrap metals.

  • Direct the activities of yard personnel to include training, scheduling, assigning tasks, evaluating performance, and administering progressive discipline as appropriate
  • Directly supervise positions including but not limited to: equipment operators, locomotive switching crews and lime blowers
  • Assist in managing the incoming and on-hand material inventory and quality to properly service melting operations
  • Work directly with the Scrap Buyer, Scrap Inspector and Yard Clerk to facilitate scrap quality deductions and rejections, including but not limited to sources of radiation
  • Work with and report to the Ministry of Highways and Transportation to establish best practices and a strong Rail Safety Management Plan
  • Assist in managing the logistics of incoming material, alloys and lime by monitoring trace reports and CPR Customer Station to effectively service the Meltshop
  • Facilitate safety meetings to discuss yard issues and best practices. Conduct daily Safety Observations and enter data into Enabalon on a daily basis
  • Recognize opportunities to improve equipment, people and processes; submit appropriate improvement suggestions for management approval with sufficient detail to justify cost
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, health and other company policies, procedures and requirements
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive safety programs, procedures and training
  • Records employee hours from time cards for payroll purposes, submit vacation requests for approval





Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; university/college degree preferred
  • 3 years’ experience in a unionized manufacturing/industrial environment preferred; experience with metal scrap recycling or steel production strongly preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required
  • Must have knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) regulations and safety standards
  • Radiation Safety Officer training an asset
  • Must have the ability to motivate staff and effectively accomplish tasks through others
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products and possess the ability to learn various in-house computer systems
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of various types of heavy equipment including but not limited to: locomotives, material handlers and rail car movers preferred
  • Experience and knowledge in identifying scrap ferrous and non-ferrous metals including but not limited to: copper, aluminum, brass, stainless steel and bronze strongly preferred
