City: Winnipeg / State: Manitoba

Job Description and Responsibilities

 

General Scrap is hiring a Scale Clerk for our Winnipeg operations team. This role is responsible for weighing and inspecting materials brought in and paying customers in an efficient and friendly manner. The ideal candidate will enjoy a fast paced work environment and be customer and safety focused. Reporting to the Office Manager, this role will also provide assistance with clerical duties.

  • Operate scale system to weigh peddler and commercial customers in and out of the yard ensuring weights, commodities, and pricing are correct
  • Operate scale system to pay peddler and commercial accounts for material bought, calculate freight charges and use scale system to pay transport companies
  • Work with Yard Inspector and Operators to minimize yard congestion and ensure a smooth traffic flow
  • Ensure outgoing truck weights are correct before sending them out of the yard
  • Use hand-held mobile radio devices to effectively coordinate tasks and resources between the yard and scale
  • Maintain an organized scale house and ensure all paperwork is up to date and is filed properly
  • Field phone calls and direct phone calls to appropriate person
  • Cut scale commodity cheques, review for accuracy and seek required approvals
  • Open and sort mail, review invoices for accuracy
  • Email daily vehicle identification numbers to required parties
  • Enter monthly contracts and new purchase orders into ScrapIT
  • Maintain Office records, file all paperwork/invoices as needed, ensure filing systems are maintained and up date
  • Complete credit applications for new vendors and submit to Capri for approval, enter approved vendors and suppliers into ScrapIT
  • Maintain office equipment, ensure office services are operating efficiently and required materials are stocked
  • Order funds for ATM twice a week, plan holiday schedules for same
  • Input payables into ScrapIT, ensure that WeldRight, Satch and Help all have been entered so invoices are printed on cheque runs
  • Create rail car/truck shipments ensuring accuracy and enter all shipments in GSAA, distribute shipment information to stakeholders
  • Help out in the Dispatch department and laundry counting as needed
  • Send amendments to GHY/Cole



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Must have High school diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years of experience working in an office setting
  • Willing and able to work in variable weather conditions including hot, dry summer conditions and cold, harsh winter conditions
  • Basic math skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Windows, Outlook and Excel
  • Strong communication skills; ability to interact productively with supervisors, peers, and subordinates
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, react to changing conditions and function well under the pressure of deadlines
  • Excellent customer service, committed to making sure that all purchases are handled professionally and expeditiously
