Job Description and Responsibilities

 

We are looking for a Quality Control Supervisor at our Regina Tubular facility. The Quality Control Supervisor will audit the manufacturing and product inspection practices for our various pipe mill processes. This position will interact with the operations department on a daily basis to ensure that a high quality product is produced as efficiently and safely as possible. A part of the job will be to interact with mill personnel at all levels, but primary interactions will be with shop floor subordinates and mid-level management. This role will be 12 hr shifts on rotation. This person will be involved in team-oriented problem solving efforts as opportunities present themselves.

 

  • Perform periodic process and product audits (first piece validation, shift change, etc.) to ensure conformance with documented work procedures and document audit results
  • Participate in Tubular Products Group internal and external audit functions (supplier quality), as required
  • Monitor audit trends specific to the manufacturing lines and communicate issues to Quality Assurance (QA) and Operations and specify improvement opportunities
  • Provide dispositions for coil (apply and test, etc.) in-process pipe or finished pipe product on quality hold
  • Provide technical assistance for shop floor quality issues relating to bare pipe manufacturing or coating application including assistance “bracketing” pipe during process upsets
  • Attend Administrative Cell meetings and provide feedback/updates on QA issues
  • Participate in product and process trials with pipe making, pipe coating, and research personnel
  • Inspect product returns associated with product claims
  • Work with quality management to develop/improve written inspection procedures, as needed
  • Develop recommendations concerning reactions to problems with inspection data and work with the operating department to limit the manufacturing of non-compliant product in each production area
  • Participate, as needed, in quality improvement projects including following trials, analyzing results, collecting shop floor data, etc.
  • Provide leadership in developing and maintaining safe work operating and inspection practices
  • Liaise with QA management to manage incoming inspection issues and field investigation issues
  • Participate in the development of training literature for quality inspectors



 



Job Requirements

 

  • 1-5 years of experience in QA or operations within an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Post-secondary technical training, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of metals-based manufacturing processes, including chemical and mechanical testing procedures
  • Must understand ISO quality standards and Quality Management Systems (QMS)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality control planning for new products is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with individuals at various levels within the organization
  • Experience working with interdepartmental teams at all levels of management to accomplish goals
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail, close observation and concentration skills
  • Mechanical aptitude, good manual dexterity and good hand eye coordination
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; ability to learn other software applications as required
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to effectively present project results to management team
