Job Description and Responsibilities

 

EVRAZ North America is recruiting a Director, Quality Assurance for our Regina Tubular and Steel Operations. This position is accountable to provide Quality Assurance oversight in the areas of product inspection, testing, customer complaints, claims management as well as quality systems management.  This position will lead mill quality assurance teams and partner with the steel and tubular manufacturing operations to ensure that quality objectives are met. 

As a site leader this role is a key collaborator that supports cross-functional teams (sales, technical sales, technical services and research departments).  This position requires a team-orientated approach to problem solving and a demonstrated ability for building strong relationships. This position reports to the Senior Director, Quality Assurance Canada.

 

  • Oversees the maintenance and continual improvement of the American Petroleum Institute (API) Q1 / ISO 9001 compliant Quality Management System (QMS). Work with the mill Operation Managers to develop and improve new and existing Quality Assurance (QA)/Quality Control (QC) procedures as required
  • Manages the development of effective corrective actions for steel and tubular customer complaints and significant internal quality issues
  • Actively works to reduce customer product claims, third party inspection Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) and quality escapes, by developing appropriate root cause problem solving teams within the mill process
  • Oversees the management of steel and tubular testing labs and associated lab personnel (where applicable, hourly/salaried). Works to develops safe, efficient and accurate testing methods
  • Manage internal audit processes for QC systems within the Regina operating facilities, conducts audits routinely to determine/verify QC effectiveness
  • Develops monthly discussions of trending for quality key performance indicators (KPI’s) such as rejects, rework, downgrades by mill and product line. Provides analysis of the data with necessary action items.  Works with operations/quality teams to address emerging trends
  • Develops product capability studies of key customer product attributes (steel coil and tubular) several times annually to identify deficiencies with respect to process capability
  • Stays abreast of inspection and testing technologies and looks for opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy and repeatability
  • Drives World Class Quality at the Regina Site
  • Oversight of QA personnel including performance management, training in EVRAZ technologies , Product Inspection and Testing and Quality Systems
  • Works with Canadian Division, Level 3 Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) personnel to ensure personnel training requirements are met for NDT inspection personnel

 

 



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Recognized Degree in Metallurgy or Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 years’ experience working as a Quality Assurance Manager with single site, multi-site experience a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ISO 9001 quality standards or equivalent, including advanced quality control planning for new products, as well as working knowledge of electronic QMS system
  • Knowledge of pipe and /or steel mill processes and operations
  • Familiar with tubular industry standards including API, Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)
  • Technical understanding of NDT systems as it applies to steel or tubular manufacturing
  • Certified in quality auditing, lead assessor status a plus
  • Six Sigma green belt qualification or higher
  • Demonstrated experience in applying root cause problem solving methods (Ford 8D, Ishikawa diagrams, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and 5 Why) to manufacturing problems
  • Experience in budget management at the mill level
  • Experience in managing QA personnel training programs
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, delivering presentations to management, extensive experience writing technical reports summarizing key findings and identifying next steps
  • Strong ability to work with interdepartmental teams at all levels of management to accomplish tasks, building solid working relationships with front line workers and management
