Job Description and Responsibilities

 

EVRAZ NA has an immediate opening for a Non Destructive Testing (NDT) Systems Design Specialist in Calgary. The NDT Design Specialist will be responsible for designing, evaluating, optimizing and improving the NDT inspection systems EVRAZ Canada uses to inspect our tubular goods. The NDT Systems Design Specialist will also ensure that the inspection system design and detection capabilities are in alignment with (meet or exceed) the guidelines/specifications of EVRAZ Canada and Canadian Standards Association (CSA), American Petroleum Institute (API), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and/or other applicable industry standards and customer specifications, as well as provide advanced technical support services to the NDT specialists within the EVRAZ Canada group.

  • Provides transducer scan plan reviews
  • Completes transducer design trials/reviews
  • Conducts mechanical system design requirements/capability assessments
  • Gage R&R assessments
  • Initiates starting points for NDT setups on new/modified products as directed by the Senior NDT Level III
  • NDT systems troubleshooting support
  • Work with Senior Level III and Mill NDT Coordinator regarding new NDT installations: project scope development, vendor system design, process control philosophy, pre-shipment acceptance testing and monitoring, monitoring installation ensuring technical scope items are in place and conducts acceptance testing with employees
  • Develop best operating practices
  • Participate in the development of improved process control systems to monitor the real-time effectiveness of our NDT systems
  • Keep up-to-date on new equipment, systems and techniques by reading related literature and attending related conferences, seminars and new equipment exhibitions
  • Lead initiatives on new NDT installations
  • Collaborate with engineering on project scope development
  • Work with vendors on system design, process control philosophy

 



 



Job Requirements

 

 

  • Minimum of Level II Certification in Ultrasonic and Magnetic Testing from the Canadian General Standards Board, ASNT, or equivalent
  • Certificate in NDT Inspection from a recognized NDT training institution (vocational/technical training)
  • Operating experience with automated PE, Phased Array Ultrasonics (PAUT) and Time-of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD UT) Ultrasonic Techniques
  • Automated Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) and standard Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) techniques an asset
  • Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering, an asset
  • Knowledge of CSA, API, ASTM and customer specifications a plus
  • Capable of using MS Office tools such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Develop and lead presentations to management regarding project results
  • Experience writing technical reports summarizing key findings and identifying next steps
  • Capable of working with interdepartmental teams at all levels of management to accomplish tasks
  • Able to work effectively with hourly and management ranks
  • Valid passport and ability to travel within North America and Europe, required
