Machinist

City: Regina / State: Saskatchewan                                                   


At EVRAZ North America, we manufacture engineered steel products for rail, energy and industrial end markets at six production sites located in the USA (Portland, Oregon; Pueblo, Colorado) and Canada (Regina, Saskatchewan; Calgary, Camrose and Red Deer, Alberta). We are the largest North American producer by volume in the rail and large diameter pipe markets, and we hold leading positions in the Western Canada oil country tubular goods, small diameter pipe and West Coast plate markets.

 

 



Job Description and Responsibilities

 

To layout work, set up and operate machine tools including CNC's, and perform any dismantling, fitting or assembly work required for plant maintenance or construction.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Operate machine tools including but not limited to: lathes, milling machines, grinders, cutters, drill presses, hand tools in order to produce precision metal parts and meet precise specifications.
  • Measure and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using micrometers, gauges, calipers, etc.
  • Perform all preventative maintenance duties, routine inspections, and repairs to equipment.
  • Readily accept emergency repairs and demands.



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Must hold a valid Inter-provincial Journeyman Machinist Certificate, Red Seal.
  • Ability to work primarily with all existing shop equipment, i.e. milling planers, radial arm drills, horizontal and vertical mills and lathes, etc.
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn and accept changes in job duties.
  • Ability to read and write safe job procedures, unfamiliar tasks, and hazard identification documents.
  • Understanding of and ability to practice LEAN methodologies including visual standard work and 6S.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, math and communication skills.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Work well and consult with employees from other departments as needed.
  • Able to read and interpret drawings and sketches.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Able to work in environment subject to fluctuations in heat, humidity, fumes, odors, dust and noise.
  • Able to perform the physical requirements of the job (prolonged standing, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, kneeling, climbing, tight areas, and able to lift up to 50 lbs.).
