At EVRAZ North America, we manufacture engineered steel products for rail, energy and industrial end markets at six production sites located in the USA (Portland, Oregon; Pueblo, Colorado) and Canada (Regina, Saskatchewan; Calgary, Camrose and Red Deer, Alberta). We are the largest North American producer by volume in the rail and large diameter pipe markets, and we hold leading positions in the Western Canada oil country tubular goods, small diameter pipe and West Coast plate markets.

 

 



Job Description and Responsibilities

 

We are seeking a General Manager for our GenAlta facility in Edmonton. The General Manager oversees all aspects of site operations, including but not limited to: sales, production, purchasing, and customer service. The General Manager will also ensure that the site remains safe and environmentally compliant, while effectively and efficiently working within the guidelines of the administrative policies and procedures of the company.

  • Advocate for safety as a top priority.
  • Directly supervise operations, maintenance, logistics, purchasing and administrative personnel.
  • Actively manage labor-related activities including training and performance evaluations.
  • Manage logistics of outgoing material by securing adequate rail and truck transportation.
  • Develop plans to achieve optimal equipment utilization, labor cost, and maintenance activities.
  • Manage purchased materials’ volumes and costs to achieve maximum spread per ton.
  • Consistently grow market share by identifying new sources of purchased material.
  • Recognize opportunities to continuously improve equipment and production processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all Environmental, Safety, Health and other Company policies.
  • Collaborate with over functional areas such as Finance, HR, Safety, IT and others.



 



Job Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business related field
  • 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment; experience with metal scrap recycling or steel production strongly preferred
  • License: Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
  • Must have knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
  • Must have the ability to motivate staff and effectively accomplish tasks through others.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products and possess the ability to learn various in-house computer software.
  • Must have knowledge of basic accounting principles and the ability to read and understand P&L statements.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of various types of heavy equipment including but not limited to: balers, shears, forklifts, cranes, loaders and shredders preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge in identifying, sorting and/or processing scrap ferrous and non-ferrous metals including but not limited to: copper, aluminum, brass, stainless steel, bronze, and titanium strongly preferred.
