Finishing and Shipping Manager

City: Regina / State: Saskatchewan                                                   


At EVRAZ North America, we manufacture engineered steel products for rail, energy and industrial end markets at six production sites located in the USA (Portland, Oregon; Pueblo, Colorado) and Canada (Regina, Saskatchewan; Calgary, Camrose and Red Deer, Alberta). Job Description and Responsibilities

 

We are seeking a Finishing and Shipping Manager.  The primary responsibilities of this role will be to plan, coordinate, direct and control the production activities of the Finishing and Shipping departments in order to maintain optimal work quality and quantity in accordance with company objectives, in a safe and efficient way. This role reports to the Superintendent Rolling & Finishing, Plant General.

  • Set objectives and manage performance of area supervisors within the finishing areas
  • Schedule product flow through of primary operations and finishing areas
  • Responsible for the health and safety of all employees in the finishing areas
  • Drive continuous improvement projects
  • Co-ordinate maintenance activities in the finishing areas
  • Schedule shipments to ensure on time delivery
  • Ensure that the operating equipment is functioning properly, safely and is properly maintained
  • Ensures the proper selection of steel, delivery is on time and that the equipment is available
  • Makes recommendations and ensures that proper operating procedures are followed to ensure the quality and quantity of product is produced in a timely, efficient and safe manner  
  • Communicates regularly with Area Supervisors and ensures understanding and proper application of all operating policies and procedures
  • Where necessary assists Area Supervisors with their responsibilities thus ensuring a management presence on the operating floor
  • Control all costs and spending in the finishing areas
  • Participate in labour relations matters affecting areas of concern
  • Approve and schedule manpower resource requirements to meet the needs of the department



 



Job Requirements

 

  •  A 4 year Engineering, Maintenance or Operating degree or background
  • Operating experience in a manufacturing facility with at least 10 years of experience in one the fields listed above
  • Mechanical Aptitude
  • Managerial experience, with an emphasis on managing human resources
  • Highly effective supervisory skills and techniques
  • The ability to real-time problem solve
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to direct and coordinate operations
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • The ability to multitask and concentrate amid distractions
